Routes of Administration of a Medicine

Medicines are used  to cure a disease or controlling symptoms or for any other purposes in any human body or  in  any animals can be administered in three routes, they are enteral, parenteral, and local ways.  We will see about the routes of these one by one now.

Before this we should understand that medicines are of different in forms.  They are of eye drops, nasal sprays, tablets, nasal solutions, capsules, syrups, ointments, vaccines, inhalational drugs,  intrauterine contraceptives, and hormonal drugs etc.,

All kind of these drugs can be given by a medical professional using the enteral parenteral, and local ways to administer inside a patient's body to cure or control a disease or any disease conditions etc., 

Entral:  This method of medicine administration can be given in 3 ways such as oral, rectal, and sublingual.  Tablets, capsules, syrup are for examples are administered through oral route.  Rectal suppositories like drugs are administered through rectal route. Nitroglycerin kind of drugs are administered to patients through sublingual (under the tongue) route.

Parenteral:  Intravenous, intradermal, intramuscular, and inhalational are the routes of administrations  of parenteral drugs.  Injections are use to administer drugs for administering via intravenous, intradermal, and intramuscular routes.  Oxygen kind of respiratory supports are given through inhalational method via nostrils.

Local:  The rest of the other kinds of administration of drugs is local.  Eye drops and ear drops are examples of local route administration of medicines inside the body.
