From this lesson, we are going to start Human Endocrine System. We are going to cover what is endocrine system, what are the glands that has, medical terms related to endocrine system, endocrine disease conditions, lab tests related to it, clinical procedures related to it, and endocrine system abbreviations. You should know that endocrine system can be identified with its glands and the hormones they secrete to maintain important body functions. The functions of endocrine system and its hormones in our body are very important. Endocrine hormone deficiency or excessive secretion may lead to many abnormal disease conditions in our body. There are many lab tests and clinical procedures to maintain hormone balance in our body.

Human Endocrine System - An introduction

It consists of glands. These glands secrete different types of hormones that are important to our body functions. These hormone-secreting glands are situated in different parts of our body from head to hip. Hormones are chemical compounds that are secreted by the endocrine glands mix with blood.  We will see what are the glands now. Any organ that secretes any type of hormone that are useful to our body is a gland. In that context, we will see what are the organs in our body that work as glands now. Hypothalamus is a gland that is situated in the brain, pineal body or epiphysis in the brain, pituitary gland (hypophysis) in the brain, thyroid glands in the neck, stomach system glandular functions, duodenal glandular functions, liver, pancreas, kidney, adrenal glands, reproductive glands, such as testes, ovaries, placental functions while pregnancy, and uterus functions while pregnancy. Simply, brain has 3 endocrine glands, such as hypothalamus, pituitary, and pineal, neck has thyroid and parathyroid glands, kidney has adrenal glands, pancreas in the liver, ovaries, and testicles are the endocrine glands that secrete important hormones.

In the next post, we will see about each of these human endocrine system and their important hormones one by one. Okay. Come on.
